Open poetry reading
to be held Saturday
WESTBROOK — Continuum for Creativity, 863 Main St., will host a Lowry’s Lodge Open Summer Poetry Reading  at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 19.

Light fare will be provided and a $4 donation is suggested.

On Saturday, Sept. 16, Claire Hersom and Jim Donnelly will read from two new Moon Pie Press poetry collections.

Author slated to discuss
‘St. Cyrs of Halidon’

WESTBROOK — Local author Paul St. Cyr speak on his new book “The St.Cyrs of Halidon,” and how the single tax colony came to be from 6-7 p.m. at Walker Memorial Library.

Concert series wraps
up with Delta Knights

The Delta Knights Band will play  from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 23, at Riverbank Park. It wraps up the free, summer concert series.

American Legion Post 62 will sell refreshments including hot dogs, hamburgers and beverages.

Float and learn
with historian

WESTBROOK — A fundraiser, Interpretive River Float: Reading Rural Landscapes with Dr. Rob Sanford, will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Sunday, Aug. 20, sponsored by Friends of the Presumpscot River.

The float with with Sanford, chairman of the University of Southern Maine’s Department of Environmental Science Program and author of “Reading the Rural Landscape,” will start at Mallison Falls in Windham and end at Saccarappa Falls in Westbrook.

Mayor to present
talk on Saccarappa

WESTBROOK — “The River Runs through Us – Saccarappa’s Past, Present & Future,” will be presented from 5:30-7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 7, at Walker Memorial Library.

Mayor Mike Sanphy  will give the presentation, sponsored by Friends of the Presumpscot River as part of its celebration of 25 years advocating for the river. Sanphy will discuss Saccarappa’s industrial history and how it shaped Westbrook, along with a talk on the city’s current and future plans for revitalizing Main Street and the downtown area.
