Bonny Eagle magazine gets high marks


The Bonny Eagle High School literary magazine The Green Light received a rank of Excellent in the 2008 NCTE Program to Recognize Excellence in Student Literary Magazines. A total of 489 schools entered the 2008 program.

Erika Glidden and Kathryn McGonagle were the student editors, and Rick Simonds the faculty advisor. Bonny Eagle students on the editorial staff include: Tom Vickery, Sean Rothgaber, Kelly Martin, Christina Avery, Bridget Ferry, Dereck Brown, Cori Simmons, and Annie Ashby.

The faculty on the advisory board include: Literary Advisor Rick Simonds; Art Advisor Peg Maxwell; Dr. Paul Star, the photographic advisor; and Graphic Designer Suzanne Simmons.

NCTE’s Program to Recognize Excellence in Student Literary Magazines recognizes students, teachers, and schools for producing excellent literary magazines. The program’s mission is to encourage all schools to develop literary magazines, seeking excellence in writing and school-wide participation in production. The National Association of Secondary School Principals has placed this program on the NASSP National Advisory List of Student Contests and Activities for 2008-2009.

The Green Light, the literary magazine of Bonny Eagle High School, was recently honored by a national program.
