Tory Hill concert
The Saco River Jazz Ensemble will be in concert at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 31, at the Tory Hill Meetinghouse, 1197 River Road (intersection soutes 112 and 202), Buxton.
The two-hour concert, sponsored by the Tory Hill Meetinghouse, will be held outside, but it will move inside in case of rain. The ensemble is known for its big-band era sound and is comprised of local musicians from teenage students to retirees.
Free-will offerings will be accepted to support the group. Hot dogs, chips, water, soda and homemade desserts will be sold.
Society’s Buxton bash
The Buxton-Hollis Historical Society is hosting its newest event, “A Benefit Bash in the Brewster Barn,” at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 6, in the barn at the Brewster mansion, 8 Brewster Place (corner of routes 202 and 112, Buxton.)
The society’s announcement said it will be a “fun and festive evening” featuring a light summer buffet and appraisals of “one of your treasures” by Bruce A. Buxton, appraiser and representative of Skinner’s Auctioneers of Boston. Donations, supporting the society’s capital projects, are $25 per person. For reservations, call Beverly at 929-6495.
Dorcas fair, car show set
The annual fair sponsored by the Dorcas Society of Hollis and Buxton next month features artisan booths and an antique car show.
The fair will be held Saturday, Aug. 20, on the grounds of the historic Brewster mansion at Tory Hill, intersection of routes 202 and 112, in Buxton.
The “Cars and Coffee Show” opens at 9 a.m. Complimentary coffee will be available for particpants showing their vintage vehicles. Spaces for showing cars are free. Booths will be available for artisans to show their crafts. Booth space rentals are $30 for a 10-by-10-area; $35, after Monday, Aug. 1.
