Both Cape Elizabeth and Scarborough will hold Household Hazardous Waste Drop Off days on Saturday, May 14.
In Cape, the event runs from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Recycling Center on Dennison Way. In Scarborough, the Public Works Department on Washington Avenue will be accepting items from 8 a.m.-noon.
Residents of Saco and Old Orchard Beach are welcome to the Scarborough drop-off, but proof of residency is required.
Among acceptable items at both events are pesticides, fertilizer, pool chemicals, antifreeze, kerosene, oil-based paints, paint thinner, compact and tubular fluorescent light bulbs, drain cleaners, metal polish, bleach, button batteries, lithium batteries and old chemistry sets.
All materials should be dropped off in their original containers when possible. Otherwise, seal and use carboard boxes for transport. Contact the Cape Recycling Center at 799-0324 or Scarborough Public Works at 730-4400 for more information.
