Friends and family of Helen Skelton gathered at 37 Sterling Ave. in South Portland May 28 to celebrate her 80th birthday.
Her brother Jason Chadwick and his wife, Patty, traveled from Mount Kisco, N.Y., for the special day. Their son Michael Chadwick flew in from Grand Island, N.Y. Also traveling from afar was Helen’s son Kenneth Jr. and his wife, Martha.
Helen’s nephew Wilton Jones was able to bring Helen’s two older sisters, Louise and Priscilla, to the party from their homes in the Damarascotta area.
Helen and her husband, Kenneth Sr., who passed away in 2004 raised five children who graced them with nine grandchildren. All of their children and grandchildren were in attendance during this day long party and cookout held on Shelby Lane in South Portland, at the home of her son Craig and daughter-in-law Marcy.
The long list of children and grandchildren included Barbara (Skelton) Bard, her husband, Rod, and their children, Kelly and Karen; Jean (Skelton) Libby, her husband, Ray, and Jean’s children, Evelyn and Jeremy; Kenneth Skelton Jr. with his wife, Martha; David Skelton, his wife, Lia, their daughter Mariyah and David’s children, Andrew, Lincoln and Kendra, and Craig, his wife, Marcy, their daughter Neeka and Craig’s son Brandon.
Granddaughter Neeka organized a lively game of badminton on the front lawn while many of the other guests caught up and shared stories. Although separated by distance at times, Helen’s family shared much love at their reunion.
