You recently published a letter signed by Muriel Soucy claiming that I oppose public beach access and, “something even more blatant,” I had removed a public access right. These claims are false.
A reference to public access on Harmons Island did appear in a booklet published by the state of Maine entitled, “Maine Coastal Public Access Guide.” When the reference was questioned, the project manager for the booklet investigated further and concluded, “After significant investigation … there’s no evidence suggesting any public access on Harmons Island. Our data sources were inaccurate.” Further, eight of the nine lots have always had direct water access.
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to set the record straight.
