WESTBROOK — Explosives found in a West Pleasant Street home last week pose no threat to the community.
According to the Westbrook Police Department, explosives were found at 153 West Pleasant St. just after 11 a.m. April 6 by a demolitions crew cleaning out the house. The house was vacant and the former occupant has long been deceased, according to Capt. Steve Goldberg.
Westbrook police officers responded to the call from the demolition company and then requested the assistance of the fire department and the Portland Police Department’s Hazardous Devices Unit. Goldberg said it took two days to remove the explosives and check the rest of the house.
Goldberg said the explosives didn’t have to be detonated because all of the materials weren’t assembled. He said there was no danger to residents and that police believe the person who had lived in the home had no criminal intentions.
