Peter Green, 11, of Pownal happily picks up a pint of strawberries last week at the Bradbury Mountain Berry Farm stand, as his father, Jim Green, digs out the money to pay for them. Harold Ely was manning the stand, visiting from Pennsylvania to help out his son Dwight Ely, who owns the farm. Bradbury Mountain Berry Farm is open to public picking daily from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., weather permitting.
Mary Jane Vermette, retiring social studies teacher at Durham Community School with 36 years in the profession, is congratulated on her retirement last Wednesday night by director Lindsay Sterling during the Regional School Unit 5 meeting at Freeport High School. Looking on is board member Valy Steverlynck. The board recognized 10 retiring teachers.
The facade of R.D. Allen Freeport Jewelers is exposed after the Corsican Cafe and Chowder House on Mechanic Stree, was demolished last week. Owners Ed Berg and Robin Wade plan to rebuild and be back in business next year. The Freeport restaurant was destroyed by fire on April 27.
