A two-vehicle accident Wednesday afternoon in Casco killed one driver and sent another to the hospital with serious injuries.
A 1:15 p.m. the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office and members of Raymond, Naples, and Casco fire-rescue units responded to the accident on Route 302 in Casco in the area known as Watkins Flats, near Tenney Hill Road and Watkins Flowers shop.
The accident involved a 2009 Pontiac Vibe driven by Adam Perron, 29, of Harrison, and a 2013 Isuzu box truck registered to Native Maine Produce and Specialty Foods of Westbrook and driven by Joshua McNally, 31, of Westbrook.
Perron was killed and McNally suffered serious injuries.
According to sheriff’s Capt. Don Goulet, McNally was driving eastbound on Route 302 and Perron was driving westbound when they collided. McNally swerved into the path of Perron, striking Perron’s vehicle on the driver’s side, Goulet said. McNally’s vehicle continued down a small embankment and rolled onto its side. McNally was ejected and as the truck rolled McNally was pinned under the vehicle.
Perron was pronounced dead at the scene, and McNally was taken by helicopter to Maine Medical Center, with serious injuries.
Members of Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Team, Criminal Investigation Team and members of the State Police Commercial Vehicle Unit will be conducting a thorough investigation. The cause is unknown at this time, Goulet said.
Next of kin for both parties have been notified.
The accident closed Route 302 until 6:30 p.m.
