Circuit breaker applications available

The Maine residents property tax and rent refund “Circuit Breaker” program is now accepting applications for property tax assessed and rent paid during 2011. Applications are available at the Freeport Town Office. The town also provides assistance in filling out applications. Residents can get assistance calling General Assistance Administrator Johanna Hanselman at 865-4743, ext. 210 to schedule an appointment. Online applications and information are available at www.maine.gov/revenue/netfile/gateweay2.htm.

Improv coming to Factory Stage

The Portland Improv Experience will be performing at the Freeport Factory Stage on Friday, Aug. 10, at 8:30 p.m. The group is known to showcase a “Choose Your Own Adventure”-type show where the audience calls the shots for the performers, and another performance know as “Special Features,” where the performers take a behind-the-scenes look at the movies.

The Portland Improv Experience warns the show contains some adult humor and the show is not suitable for all ages. Tickets are $10, students and senior tickets are $8. The Freeport Factory Stage is located at 5 Depot St. For tickets and information, go to www.freeportfactory.com.

Jason Spooner at Winslow Park

The Winslow Park Concert Series continues this week with the Jason Spooner Trio on Thursday, Aug. 9, at 6:30 p.m. Entry fees to the park are $2 for Freeport residents, $3 for non-residents, season pass holders and campers attend for free. Fireworks reminder

The town of Freeport would like to remind everyone that the purchase and display of fireworks is prohibited in town. Only commercial displays licensed by the Maine Commission of Public Safety are allowed.

Shellfish intern wanted

Freeport is looking for a seasonal shellfish intern for the season. Some of the job’s responsibilities include: green crab trapping, pH testing, clam net monitoring and water quality testing. Applicants should be high school graduates who are comfortable working on a boat and knowledge of chemistry and biology and/or marine biology is preferred.

Thrift shop open

The Freeport Community Thrift Shop located at 53 Depot St. may have what you’re looking for at a great price. Help support the Freeport Community Services by purchasing items in the store or donating items to be sold. Summer hours for the thrift shop are Mondays through Fridays 9 a.m.-6 p.m., Saturdays from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and closed on Sundays.
