Perhaps the biggest individual result on the day belonged to Nyagoa Bayak, a Blazes freshman, who cleared 05-08.00 in the High Jump for a new PR and a first-place finish. Bayak won Indoor SMAAs, States and New Englands all at 05-07.00.

Nyagoa going five-eight was awesome,” said Even. “Coach Card and Coach Miklovich worked well with her over the past few weeks. She was pretty locked in. She always jumps better when she’s competing against her cousin, too.” South Portland’s Ling Bol, also among the State’s best jumpers, is the cousin in question. Bol finished second, at 05-04.00.

Even’s other jumpers likewise excelled. “Our other jumpers stepped up too,” he said. “Kiersten Hilton jumped 9-foot-6 in the (Pole) Vault for the win, and Kelly Dyer won long and triple.”

Finally, Even applauded his 4×800 outfit. “I’m very impressed with our 4×8,” he said. “They competed hard. It’s a good setup for the rest of the year.”
