Zach Mills, a 2015 graduate of Gorham High School, is an intern this summer in the office of Sen. Susan Collins in Washington, D.C.

Mills Congressional intern

U.S. Sen. Susan Collins recently announced that Zach Mills, a Gorham native, is a summer intern in her Washington office. 

Mills, a 2015 graduate of Gorham High School, is the son of Todd Mills and Cheryl Fotter of Gorham.

 “Zach is a terrific student and a hard worker, and I am delighted to welcome him to my Washington, D.C., office,”Collins said in a press release. “I always enjoy giving students the opportunity to become actively involved in the legislative process and to serve the citizens of Maine.”

Mills is a  senior at the University of Connecticut where he is a double major in political science and history.  He hopes to attend law school following his graduation and pursue a career in public policy, according to the press release.

He previously interned in Collins’ Portland office.

Centre of Movement events

The Centre of Movement is conducting a one-day theater arts workshop 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 9. Suggested ages are 7-12 and the fee is $20.

Then, it’s the Shim Sham Jam 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 14. The “Happy Hoofer” will be on hand to teach. There is no fee but donations will be accepted.

Blood needed

The American Red Cross will hold an opportunity to donate blood 1-6 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 13, at Gorham High School, 41 Morrill Ave.

Gorham dancers in ballet

Several Gorham dancers will perform in the Maine State Ballet’s production of “Hansel and Gretel” that opens Thursday, Aug. 9, and continues with performances through Saturday, Aug. 18, at Lopez Theater, 348 U.S. Route One, Falmouth.

Performances are 7 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays, and 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturdays.

Gorham performers are Estelle Ballard, Angela Mia Dellasala, Arie Eiten, Kate Larkin, Ashley Meacham and Halilee Willey.

Tickets are $17-$23 for reserved seating with a $2 discount for seniors (age 62 and up) and children under 12. For tickets or more information, call 781-3587.

U.S. taxpayer debt

The Bureau of the Fiscal Service reported on Aug.2 that the U.S. public debt was $21,313,281,480,972.70.

The Don Roy Trio concert drew a large gathering last week to the gazebo in Gorham. The free summer concert series concluded Tuesday with JC & The Aces.
