Hike it or bike it for Loon Echo

The annual Loon Echo Hike n’ Bike Trek to benefit Loon Echo Land Trust’s land conservation efforts will be held on Saturday, Sept. 22 at Shawnee Peak Ski Area.

This year the trek offers a six mile hike (rather than bike) along the trails on Pleasant Mountain, Loon Echo’s focus for conservation. For cyclists of all abilities, the trek offers three scenic routes: a 25-, 50-, or 100-mile trek which travels through fields and forests of the upper Saco River area and into the White Mountain National Forest.

The trek is a carbon-neutral event, thanks to 35 wind watts donated by Maine Interfaith Power and Light. Other “green” components are being incorporated, such as optional organic t-shirts.

Come join the fun, win some great prizes, enjoy a delicious barbecue meal, relax to the live tunes of the Blue Willow Band and The Sensations, and help us protect the natural beauty of this region.

To learn more about the event and to register, please visit www.lelt.org or call 647-4352. Participants may sign up the morning of the event at a slightly higher rate. Please check-in before 8 a.m. for the century bike ride and before 10 a.m. for the other bike rides and hike.
