Kentucky Derby Fest
On Saturday, May 6, at 5 p.m., you’re invited to the Fiddlehead Kentucky Derby Fest at the Fiddlehead Center, 25 Shaker Road. Join in to view “the most exciting two minutes in sports.” In addition to streaming the derby, the fest will feature a hat and bow-tie competition, raffle, snacks and beverages and a Live and Silent Auction. A benefit dinner in support of Dawn Bailey, who is battling cancer, will be held on Saturday, April 29, at American Legion Post 86, 15 Lewiston Road. A Lasagna or Spaghetti Dinner will be served from 4-6 p.m. for $15 for adults and $6 for children 12 and under. An auction and raffles will follow from 6-6:30 p.m., and dancing from 6:30-11 p.m. .
It’s time to Register for the Run or Walk/Run Patriot 5K Road Race on Saturday, May 20. The race is Maine’s fastest and richest 5K with a mostly flat course that skirts around Crystal Lake. The 5K starts at 9 a.m. and Kid’s Fun Run at 8 a.m. Registration ends May 20. Go to www.patriot5k.org.

Upcoming movies at the Gray Public Library are: “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” (PG-13), Friday, April 21, at 2 p.m.; “Star Wars: Rogue One” (PG-13), Saturday, April 22, at 10:30 a.m. and “Dr. Strange” (PG-13) Saturday, April 22, at 1 p.m.
The GPLA Early Bird Sale is scheduled for Friday, April 28, from 5:30-7:30 p.m., with a $5 admission charge. The Book Sale will be held from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, April 29, with no admission charge.
Maine author Monica Wood will read from and sign copies of her newest novel, “The One-in-a-Million Boy,” at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 2. The event is part of the Pat Barter Speaker Series.

Baseball/Softball golf tourney
The 15th annual GNGHS Baseball/Softball Golf Tournament Fundraiser will be held Sunday, May 7, at Spring Meadows Golf Club, with check-in at 11 a.m. and a shotgun start at noon. Sponsorships range from $$75-$500. Golfers can sign up individually for an 18-hole round, including cart, dinner and prizes, for $80 or they can form a team of four for $320. Each golfer will receive a gift bag which includes an additional free round of golf. Dinner will begin at approximately 5 p.m. Prizes will be given to the top teams and winners of individual contests. A BBQ with with entertainment by local singer/songwriter Michael Krapovicky will be held from 5-8 p.m. Friday, April 21, at the American Legion Post 86, 15 Lewiston Road.
Save date for summer fest
The Second Annual Gray Community End of Summer Fest will be held from 7-11 p.m. Friday, Aug. 11, and 9:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12. The festival will include: music, food, expo booths, live animals, games and interactive exhibits for all ages, performances, dancing and a makers’ market.
