Adult Ed Open House
Windham Raymond Adult Education will host an Open House on Wednesday, Aug. 31, from 5-7 p.m. Come by and check out the offerings and learn about the courses and services Adult Ed provides. Essentials Pantry
On Saturday, Aug. 27, the Essentials Pantry will be open from 8:30-9:30 a.m. at St. Ann’s Episcopal Church in Windham. The Pantry serves all those in need in the Windham area. Enter the pantry through the lower side door, and St. Ann’s will provide you with a bag of cleaning products and personal hygiene products provided by parishioners, local businesses and benevolent organizations.

Cancer Support Group meets
Windham Cancer Support Group will hold its monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 29, at the Windham Public Library. This is an informal get together for those who have been or are affected by cancer, and an opportunity to share experiences and get to know others in a similar situation.

Blood drive at library
Windham Public Library is sponsoring its first blood drive with the American Red Cross, on Thursday, Sept. 1, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visit the Red Cross website, to book your time slot, or call the library at 207-892-1908 for answers to your questions.

Veterans Mixer
Every Wednesday, a Veterans Social Mixer is held from 9-11 a.m. at Windham Veterans Center. All veterans are welcome to stop by and take a break from the day’s routine, visit with old or new friends and find out what’s new.

Legion meets
Field-Allen Post 148 of the American Legion will hold its monthly meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 7, at the Windham Veterans Center. Supper is at 5 p.m. and a business meeting will be at 6 p.m. New members are most welcome.

Portsmouth trip
Register by Wednesday, Sept. 7, if you would like to go on a special trip for seniors to Portsmouth, N.H. The Parks & Recreation Department is joining area recreation departments to offer “The Best of Portsmouth Foodie Tour” on Wednesday, Sept. 21, leaving at 10 a.m. and returning at 3 p.m. Visit five restaurants for special tastings and sightseeing. Food Pantry
Senior pick-up day will be Wednesday, Sept. 7, this month, due to the Monday holiday. We are reminding everyone that the pantry could use donations of paper goods and cleaning products, as well as personal hygiene items. These are all items that are not covered by food stamps, but are necessary!

Pennels Blood Drive
The annual Toby Pennels Red Cross Blood Drive will be held at the Windham Veterans Center from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 7. Sponsors include the American Legion Field Allen Post 138, VFW Post 10643, Windham Veterans Association and Coldwell-Bankers Real Estate. Donors may contact the Red Cross for an appointment, 1-800-RED-CROSS.

Community Celebration
St. Ann’s Episcopal Church will hold a Community Celebration from 1-4 .m. Saturday, Sept. 10, including a bouncy house, cotton candy, DJ Dave and Sparks Ark. The public is welcome.

9/11 Memorial Service
On Sunday, Sept. 11, Windham Assembly of God will host a community 9/11 Memorial Service at 6 p.m. to commemorate the 15th anniversary. Light refreshments will be served. Book talk and signing
On Wednesday, Sept. 14, local businessman and author Kevin Hancock, will discuss and sign his new book, “Not for Sale: Finding Center in the Land of Crazy Horse,” 6-7:30 p.m., at the Windham Public Library. Call , 892-1908 for more information.

Bean supper
The American Legion Post 148 will hold a baked bean supper Friday, Sept. 16, from 5-6:30 p.m. at Windham Veterans Center. The cost is $8; children under 12 eat free. Proceeds benefit the Legion scholarship fund.

Jazz at church
The Bellamy Jazz Band will perform at North Windham Union Church at 7 p.m., on Saturday, Sept. 17, as part of the Music with a Mission program. Doors open at 6 p.m. Admittance is $12 and $10 for seniors.

WVA annual meeting
Windham Veterans Association annual membership meeting and election will be held Monday, Sept. 19, at 5 p.m. All members are strongly encouraged to attend. The meeting is open to all Post 148 and Post 10643 members as well as new WVA members.

Memorial pavers
The Windham Veterans Association is making a limited number of granite pavers available between now and the end of September 2016. There is limited space to accept an additional 50 pavers to be installed for Veterans Day in November, on a first come basis. Each paver provides room for three lines of information about the Veteran with a maximum of 16 letters/spaces per line. Info may be name, rank, branch of service, period of service or war designation. Each paver is $50. Flags around town
Just after Labor Day, the flags that have graced the town’s highways and byways for the last 11 consecutive years will be coming down for the season. In the coming week, members of Field-Allen Post 148 will be contacting local business and citizens seeking support for the flag program. Much of the hardware used is getting past its useful life and needs to be replaced. The Post would appreciate any support so that this “Show the Flag” program can continue for many more years.
