WESTBROOK — The Intercultural Community Center is hoping to raise $20,000 at a gala this Friday.

The event, scheduled for Nov. 10 from 7-10 p.m., will be held at Seasons Grille & Bar, located at 155 Riverside St. in Portland. Tickets can be purchased through the Intercultural Community Center’s website.

As of Wednesday, $2,500 had been raised in ticket sales. Individual tickets cost $50 and a table for six people can be purchased for $300. Donations can also be made to the Intercultural Community Center through the ticket purchasing portal.

The gala will mark the Intercultural Community Center’s 4th anniversary. The organization, located at 36 Patrick Drive, offers after-school and summer programs for immigrant children. The center provides homework help, English language support, and social and physical activities for the children.

The event, which will be a disco dance party, will feature live music by Motor Booty Affair. There will be a silent auction, prizes, appetizers and a cash bar.

The fundraiser will help support the center and its Power School, which served more than 70 children this summer. The program helps students in third through eighth grade achieve English language fluency. It provides support in other subject areas as well.

The center employs four teachers, two drivers and two administrators, and sees an average of 45 students every week day. Most of the kids are from Westbrook, but there are a handful from Portland as well. Earlier this year the center was named a 2017 Giraffe Award winner by the Maine Children’s Alliance.

Friday’s gala is being sponsored by a handful of local businesses and organizations, including Idexx, cPort Credit Union, Infinity Federal Credit Union, Hannaford, Lee Auto, Norway Savings Bank, Avesta Housing and the John T. Gorman Foundation.
