Thursday, Nov. 28: Zumba Instructor Vicki Toole (also a Lakes Region Weekly columnist) is offering a free Zumba class on Thanksgiving Day morning. Pop the bird in the oven and then come do some pre-feast calorie burning (just don’t literally burn the Turkey!) Class starts at 9 a.m. at the Bridgton Old Town Hall. Friday, Nov. 29: The Windham Kiwanis Club starts their 38th season selling Christmas trees in front of Aubuchon Hardware on Route 302 in North Windham. Kiwanis members will staff the nonprofit stand through the third week of December weekdays 2:30-5 p.m. and weekends 10 a.m.-5 p.m. All trees are $25. All proceeds are used for community programs.
Sunday, Dec. 1: A tree lighting at 5 p.m. is sponsored by the Raymond Lions Club in conjunction with the Raymond Village Library and begins the holiday season each year in Raymond. All are invited. There will be carolers from the Raymond schools to entertain and refreshments will be served. There will be a special story time beginning at 4:30 p.m., presented by Lisa Davison, youth services assistant.
Thursday, Dec. 5: At 7 p.m., State Sen. Gary Plummer, and state Reps. Tom Tyler and Jane Pringle are sponsoring a community forum on the Affordable Care Act at the Windham Town Council chambers in town hall. The presentation and question-and-answer session will be led by Carol Zechman from CarePartners and the MedAccess program. Zechman and her team are Certified Application Counselors who can answer questions about the ACA and can also help people sign up at their offices in Portland.
Dec. 5: Lyn Sudlow, author of “A Vast Army of Women: Maine’s Uncounted Forces in the American Civil War,” will share some stories from her book at 7 p.m. at the North Gorham Public Library on 2 Standish Neck Road. Co-sponsored by the library and the Gorham Arts Alliance with a grant from the Maine Humanities Council, the program is one of a series of public events commemorating Maine’s role in the Civil War. Saturday, Dec. 7: Books, baked goods, and some crafts will be for sale at the North Gorham Public Library from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be a selection of good used books, primarily fiction. Holiday baked goods will be available from the UCC church guild and a few local crafters will have their wares for sale. The library is located at the corner of Standish Neck Road and North Gorham Road. For more information, call 892-2575.
Sunday, Dec. 8: A Bake and Holiday Gift Basket Sale takes place at the Raymond Village Library, 3 Meadow Road, Raymond, beginning at 10 a.m. until closing at 5 pm. Christmas cookies, pies, breads and all kinds of yummy treats for holiday giving and enjoyment. Come early for best selection.
Dec. 8: Join Casco Village Church UCC, 941 Meadow Road (Route 121), in Casco, at 4 p.m. when the choir under the direction of Eugene Long with accompanist Evan Cuddy performs classical and contemporary musical selections for your holiday enjoyment. Admission is free. There will be a free will offering, and refreshments afterward in the Great Hall.
