WESTBROOK — Parts of two of the city’s busiest roads will be shut down temporarily later this month for utility work.
A section of Main Street between Stroudwater and Spring streets will be closed from 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, to 6:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at 6:30 so sewer and water lines can be connected to the new Dunkin Donuts at 742 Main St. Traffic will be detoured via Stroudwater or Spring streets.
Similarly, Spring Street between Landing Road and East Valentine Street will be closed between 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 26, and 6:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27, so utilities can be connected to a new tw0-family home at 270 Spring St. The road will be open for local traffic only. Other motorists would be detoured toward Saco Street via East Valentine Street or toward Stroudwater Street via Landing Road.
Eric Dudley, the city’s director of public service said residents in the area will be notified of the work.
Les Wilson & Sons Inc. is doing both projects. Police and flaggers, Dudley said, will be be on duty during both projects to divert traffic, an expense that will be picked up by the applicant. The applicant will also pay the cost for the sewer line inspection.
