Office hours

The Town Office, at Mallett Hall, is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday 8:30 a.m.-6:30 and closed Friday. The office will be closed Monday, Sept. 5, for Labor Day.

Meetings

The Board of Selectmen will meet on Monday, Aug. 29, Monday, Sept. 12 and Monday, Sept. 26, at 7 p.m., at Mallett Hall in the Dewitt Meeting Room.

Community club annual meeting

The North Pownal Community Club will hold its annual meeting on Monday, Aug. 29, at 7 p.m., at the recently renovated building at 857 Lawrence Road in Pownal. Officers and board members will be elected and there are still opportunities to run for office.

Everyone is welcome to attend, socialize and learn more about the club. Refreshments will be served and free flower bulbs will be available compliments of local gardener Delores Raymond. Contact Alan Bradstreet for more information at 688-4728.

Beans, spaghetti coming Sept. 3

The North Pownal United Methodist Church is planning a public baked bean supper on Saturday, Sept. 3, from 4:30-6 p.m. The menu includes kidney, yellow and pea beans, hot dogs, cole slaw, potato salad, spaghetti with meat sauce, biscuits and brown bread, house-made pickles and pickled beets, and pies galore. The cost is $8, $4 for those 4 to 12 years old and free for children under 4.

Gospel group to sing Aug. 28

The Dartts, a gospel singing group from Nashville, Tenn., will be singing at the First Parish Congregational Church, 422 Hallowell Road in Pownal, on Sunday, Aug. 28, at 9:30 a.m.

Tax notice

The 2016-2017 tax bills have been mailed. Those who are serviced by a mortgage company must provide them with a copy of the bill. Also, homeowners who want a receipt should enclose a self-addressed, stamped envelope with their check. The first quarterly payment is due Sept. 15.

Church supper set for Sept. 17

First Parish Congregational Church, Route 9 in Pownal, will host a church supper on Saturday, Sept. 17. The menu includes baked beans and spaghetti. Seating is at 5 and 6 p.m. Tickets are $9 and $4 for children 5-12. Children under 5 are free. To reserve tickets call Lois at 688-4433

Food pantry on Wednesdays

The North Pownal United Methodist Church Food Pantry on 851 Lawrence Road is now open every Wednesday from 9:30-11:30 a.m. The pantry never knows from week to week what it will be getting. Fellowship, coffee and snacks are served before food distribution. The pantry helps those in need and welcomes everyone. Donations are appreciated. The church office number is 688-4938.

Men’s breakfast resumes in fall

The First Parish Congregational Church of Pownal monthly Men’s Breakfast is in recess for July and August and will resume on Saturday, Sept. 10, at 7:30 a.m. The breakfast open to any men who want to come, regardless of affiliation. The Rev. John Wentworth leads the discussions.

Church services

Prayer, Praise and Worship, with the Rev. Raymond St. Pierre, is held every Thursday at 6:30 p.m., at the North Pownal United Methodist Church, 851 Lawrence Road. For more information, call St. Pierre at 837-0682 or Kim Drew, church secretary, at 837-2938.

North Pownal United Methodist Church worship service is Sunday at 9 a.m., led by the Rev. Raymond St. Pierre. Sunday School for children and adults begins at 10:30 a.m. St. Pierre’s hours are Wednesday from 9 a.m.-noon and Thursdays by appointment only at 688-4938.
