Scarborough businesses honored for achievements

The Scarborough Economic Development Corp. has announced the recipients of this year’s Outstanding Scarborough Business awards.

Among the award winners were On the Vine Marketplace, which won the Outstanding New Business prize, and Pierce Furniture, which won the Outstanding Legacy Business honor.

The other award winners were Salt Pump Climbing Co., which won for Project of the Year, and Mainely Tubs, which received the Outstanding Small Business award.

“It’s a pleasure to once again recognize outstanding businesses in Scarborough,” said Kevin Freeman, chairman of the the organization’s board. “The Scarborough business community is so vibrant, that it is a real challenge to narrow the field down to just four businesses. Each one of the businesses and their employees have made a difference this year.”

The awards were made at the group’s Oct. 4 annual meeting.

Karen Martin, executive director, said the annual meeting “celebrates the energy and creativity of businesses in Scarborough. (This) is our way of thanking businesses for choosing Scarborough and contributing to the community.”

The featured speaker at the annual meeting, which was held at the Black Point Inn, was Mike Vail, president of Hannaford Supermarkets, the town’s largest private employer, according to the Scarborough Economic Development Corp.
