After 20 years of distinguished public service as the president of the University of Maine-Farmington and the University of Southern Maine, Theo Kalikow moved to Scarborough, where she is now the Democratic candidate for House District 29.
At the Farmington campus, she transformed a once-obscure state teachers college into a nationally ranked public liberal arts college and thoroughly integrated the university into the fabric of the town. She has served on many state public boards and commissions related to education, economic development, LGBT rights and other areas. Kalikow will undoubtedly have a dynamic impact as a state legislator and be an effective spokesperson for the interests of Scarborough residents.
Kalikow is a strong and respected leader who believes that spending on public education at all levels is the biggest and best investment in the future that we can make as a society. She knows that this objective cannot and should not be achieved primarily through local property tax increases, and she supports a greater state responsibility in educational funding and a fairer taxation system that does not harm average Mainers.
Theo brings passion for public service and broad-based knowledge of how to get things done in state government. Let’s put Theo Kalikow to work for us in Augusta.
