Take a shot of Westbrook for contest

WESTBROOK — The city is hoping to capture the best of Westbrook with the help of talented residents.

The City of Westbrook Photography Contest has been open since mid-June and will run through Sept. 30. Entries must be submitted to Marketing and Communications Coordinator Tina Radel at tradel@westbrook.me.us.

All photos must be taken within Westbrook city limits and will be judged by five criteria: originality, technical excellence, composition, artistic merit and overall impact. According to a press release from Radel, the suggested subject categories for the photos are environment, culture and community, downtown and architecture.

The city requests that photos are taken with the highest possible resolution and are submitted as JPEGs or TIFFs with a file size of no more than 20 MB. Entrants are allowed to submit up to five photos, but each must be submitted separately.

Photos sent to Radel must have the email subject line of #Photo Contest Entry# and photos must be named in the format of “first initial last name _  photo description.” Photos must be attached to the email instead of embedded.

Entrants must provide their first and last name, their phone number and email address, the file name of the photo, and the date and location of the photo.

Three winners and three honorable mentions will be chosen by the city. The first prize winner will receive a $100 gift card and a six-month, all-inclusive fitness and aquatics membership to the Westbrook Community Center. The second place winner will receive a $75 gift card and third place will receive a $50 gift card.

The three honorable mentions will each receive $25 gift cards.

According to Radel, the photos may be used by the city in print advertisements, postcards, posters, brochures, applications, television programs, videos and social media and on the city website.
